カンノサカン は、2003年のレントゲンヴェルケ(当時六本木)に於いてのデビューから現在に至るまで、多くのペインティング、ドローイング作品を制作し、それらは国内外のコレクター・企業・ホテルなどに収蔵されています。また、クリスティーズ他いくつものオークションハウスでも取引され、コンテンポラリーアートのフィールドにて一定の評価を得ております。
そのキャリアにより裏打ちされた技術で制作された今回の色鉛筆画は、精密なジオラマのように時間をかけて丁寧に描かれております。ジオラマ制作においてのコンセプトでもある「Abandoned landscape in a parallel world / 並行世界の放置された風景」という独自の世界観が絶妙に表現され、小品ながら完成度の高い絵画作品となっております。

カンノは錆を描くために最も適しているのは色鉛筆だと考えています。色鉛筆の硬さを使い分けることで、錆の持つ様々な質感と、乾燥や湿度や立体感などをより忠実に味わい深く表現できるからです。支持体が紙である色鉛筆画は、エナメル・ラッカー・アクリル塗料及びプラスチックを用いた立体ジオラマ作品よりも、より作家自身の理想に近い質感の表現ができていると言えるかもしれません。

Sakan "Joe" KANNO is a contemporary artist known for creating diorama artworks in the "Joe KANNO works" series. Since his debut in 2003 at “Roentgenwerke”(Roppongi) he has produced numerous paintings and drawing pieces, which are held in collections of collectors, companies, and hotels both in Japan and abroad. His works have also been featured in Christie's and various auction houses, earning recognition in the field of contemporary art.

The colored pencil drawing created with the precision of a diorama represents a unique world view, "Abandoned landscape in a parallel world," a concept central to his diorama creations. This small-scale artwork showcases a high level of craftsmanship.

KANNO believes that colored pencils are best suited for depicting rust. By using the varying hardness of colored pencils, he can faithfully and deeply express the various textures, dryness, humidity, and three-dimensionality that rust possesses. The use of paper as the support material allows for a texture closer to the artist's ideal, compared to three-dimensional diorama works using enamel, lacquer, acrylic paint, and plastic.
